Leeds United loanee Diego Llorente is set to be given a final chance to prove himself for Roma this weekend.

That’s according to a report from RomaToday, who say the centre back is set to start for Jose Mourinho’s side when they face Sampdoria on Sunday afternoon.

How have things gone for Llorente since joining Roma from Leeds?

Despite only signing a new contract with Leeds in December, Llorente left the club in the January window, joining Roma on loan, with the option to buy for a reported €18million.

Since then however, the Spaniard has struggled to make an impression for the Serie A outfit.

Llorente has started just once for Roma, in their Europa League win over Real Sociedad, when he was substituted at half time due to injury.

As a result, it now seems as though the 29-year-old may already be approaching the point of no return when it comes to his Roma career.

Llorente made an appearance for Real Madrid.

According to this latest update, Llorente is set to be restored to the starting lineup for this weekend’s clash with Sampdoria, following the poor recent form of Marash Kumbulla.

It is thought that this outing will represent a final chance for Llorente to lay the groundwork for a potential permanent move to Roma in the summer window.

You imagine there will be a fair few at Leeds hoping that Sunday’s game goes well for Llorente.

Ultimately, the centre back’s time at Elland Road has not worked out, and it could be better for all concerned there, if he was to move on permanently in the summer.

Indeed, the fee that Leeds could generate from such a move would certainly be useful in terms of giving them the scope to invest on strengthening their own squad once the market opens again.

However, given how disappointing things have been for Llorente at Roma so far, you get the feeling he is going to have to impress on Sunday, and in a few more games after that, if such a move is to happen.
