Leeds United’s pursuit of a midfielder looks to have circled in on Red Bull Salzburg starlet Brenden Aaronson, as the Whites turn the screw on signings.

Leeds haven’t really been totally active in the first few weeks despite the mass outcry from fans to get bodies through the door.

However, things have heated up in the past 245 hours with reports emerging of Leeds’ very strong interest in Brenden Aaronson, the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder.

The Athletic have reported a £15million offer being made by Leeds for the USMNT midfielder, with it also being swiftly rejected by the Austrian club.

Salzburg are the side responsible for contributing to the development of talents such as Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Patson Daka, Dayot Upamecano, Naby Keita and more.

Even though the opening bid from Leeds has been turned down, it is claimed that Leeds are very keen on making the 21-year-old their first January signing this season.

The Daily Express are now claiming that Leeds’ task of luring Aaronson to Elland Road from Austria is going to be made difficult by his current club’s stance.

The report explains that the club ‘will not entertain any offers’ for the player with Champions League knockout stage fixtures looming against Bayern Munich, and the £15million bid will have to be increased significantly for them to consider a sale.

Their stance is unlikely to prevent Leeds from tabling a second bid and should the money represent an irresistible proposition, there is every chance Salzburg could still reluctantly agree to a sale.

Money talks, and Salzburg have been in this position plenty of times before.

They might not want to sell their prized asset and we know where they’re coming from, but his ambitions will come into play, with playing in the Premier League a dream of Aaronson’s.

I do wonder how stern that stance will be if Leeds start to touch £20million with an offer because that’s an awful lot of money to reject.

On the other hand, if it was Leeds that were heading into a Champions League round-of-16 tie next month, I wouldn’t be wanting us to sell any player, let alone a vital first-team member, so you can see why they’re refusing to budge.
