Leeds United have been informed by Birmingham City that midfielder George Hall is not for sale this January.

Leeds’ attempts to strengthen in January will also be looking at how they keep up their shrewd investments into the youth setup.

Long-term targets have been mapped out, including Birmingham City starlet George Hall.

Hall, 18, has been a frequent presence in the Blues’ Championship campaign this term, making 18 appearances while scoring and assisting once each.

It comes after Leeds tried to sign him in the summer window alongside their successful move for Sonny Perkins from West Ham.

With reports emerging yesterday from TEAMtalk that Leeds were closing in on the midfielder, Birmingham Mail have shed further light on his club’s stance on the matter.

While they confirm that Leeds are indeed strongly interested in signing Hall next month, their advances are not greeted well by the EFL outfit.

“However, Blues have responded to that interest with a firm “No, thanks”. They want Hall to stay at the club and at least have some form of protection in the fact unlike (Amari) Miller, who was “between contracts”, they still have Hall on the books for another 18 months and have offered him a new, improved deal.”

While the Blues are aiming to tie him down to a new deal to secure him as an asset, they are claimed to not be naive to the fact that Leeds could place down an offer that is simply too good to refuse.

“No-one at St Andrew’s is naïve enough to think that Blues are immune to any offer that comes in, whatever the size. The reality of the situation is that every player has a price and if their white socks are knocked off by the number put before them by Leeds they would be foolish not to countenance it.”

Football Insider did claim last month that Leeds were lining up a £3million offer, and it seems as though that might not be enough for the Whites to land the 18-year-old.

Should Leeds push to sign Hall in January?

Money talks.

It’s good to see that Birmingham are standing firm with one of their prized assets, but at the end of the day, they are not in a position to turn down huge sums.

How much that may be remains to be seen, but if we are willing to make an offer upwards of £3million, it’s a lot to turn down in their position.

Hall might not believe he’s in the right place to move to the Premier League just yet, but he will be seeing the development of players who have joined Leeds, and surely consider it.

He is playing first team football which he needs to do to develop. A move to Leeds will stifle his development. Money wise it may make sense but career wise it’d probably be the equivalent of suicide. I do think if Leeds started offering the likes of £5m+ then Birmingham may be tempted but the more Hall plays the better he will become. Next season he may be a regular starter and then you are talking 8 to 10m especially if he makes the England u21 like he is expected to do.
