Leeds United look set to be beaten to the signing of Blackburn Rovers star Ben Brereton Diaz as Sevilla lead the race for his signature.

We’re entering the business end of the season in the Premier League, and Leeds will be hoping that they are going to have enough under Jesse Marsch to stave off the drop.

With that, will come an extra focus on the summer transfer window as the new manager plugs alarming gaps in the squad, including in attack.

As Patrick Bamford’s injuries have highlighted, Leeds need another quality striker in their ranks going forward, and that is expected to be an area of focus once the season is over.

It has been reported this season that Leeds have been interested in Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz, following the forward’s breakout year as a new Chile international, scoring on his first start in the Copa America against Bolivia, to then notch three in seven during Wolrd Cup qualifying since.

On top of that, he’s managed an impressive 21 goals so far in the Championship.

His recognition extends beyond the English divisions, though, and TEAMtalk are now claiming that he is set to move elsewhere with Sevilla now leading the race to sign him in the summer.

They report that he is closing in on a move to Julen Lopetegui’s side who sit third in La Liga, and it is likely to cost around £20million.

Brereton Diaz’s current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but Blackburn do have the option of extending it by another year – per Sky Sports.

Diaz would have been a good signing for us, with how we’re shaping up heading into next season.

We need another player who is an out and out goalscorer because Bamford’s absences have really hurt us this season.

It’s a shame for Blackburn that they look like missing out on the play-offs because that could have seen them manage to keep hold of him with a shot at promotion.

It’s no shock that a Champions League club from elsewhere have taken a keen interest in him, given his international exploits, on top of the goals he’s scored in the league.
