Leeds United are reportedly closely monitoring the situation of Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori, ahead of a potential loan swoop in January.

Leeds’ depth has always been up for debate under Marcelo Bielsa, with the Argentine eager to keep his squad as trim as possible.

While the squad might look thin at face value, the versatility of almost every player in it allows for rotation and cover to be made when needed if injuries and suspensions pile up.

That being said, the centre-back position is causing Bielsa a big headache at the moment.

Leeds have seemingly only had a fully-fit and available defence for around nine minutes this season.

With Diego Llorente fit enough to return against Chelsea, Robin Koch was forced off before the 10-minute mark and gave Bielsa yet another dilemma at the back.

While there is no plan for Bielsa to dip into the market for a new centre-back, there is scope for a temporary addition.

Football Insider are reporting that Leeds have been keeping tabs on Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori’s situation as he continues to struggle at the low end of the pecking order.

The one-time England international is seemingly fifth-choice at Stamford Bridge behind Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christiansen, and Antonio Rudiger.

The Blues would not be willing to sell the centre-back as they view him to be a very strong option for the future, but a loan would hugely benefit him this season.

You’ve got to take Bielsa’s word for it that we aren’t going to go all out for a defender in January.

However, stating our ambition to buy one would be a very daft move in the January market, where the seller holds all the power.

With Llorente hopefully back around Christmas, that gives us two centre-backs, but then we’d be waiting until February to be up to four when Koch and Geatano Berardi return to the squad.

I’d happily see Tomori join considering how much he’s come on since he joined Frank Lampard at Derby County.

He’s a very competent defender and confident in possession too, so I don’t see why we wouldn’t take up this opportunity, should it be an affordable one.
