Oldham Athletic full-back Benny Couto has seen a bid rejected from an unnamed Premier League club, amid Leeds United’s interest.
While many are clamouring for a marquee name through the doors at Elland Road, the club are also keeping tabs on youngsters at all times.
Mateo Joseph Fernandez’s arrival early in the month shows Leeds’ willingness to continue scouting for talented youth players, and he’s not the only player the club have their eyes on.
The Telegraph have reported this week that one player the Whites have their eyes on is Oldham Athletic’s Portuguese left-back, Benny Couto.
The 18-year-old has been a regular in the Latics’ starting lineup this season, making 21 appearances in all competitions, including the EFL Trophy defeat to Leeds under-21s.
It is also reported that Wolves are keeping tabs on the £1million-rated defender this month, highlighting that Leeds are not the only club monitoring the teenager.
The Oldham Times are now claiming that an unnamed Premier League club have seen an offer for Couto rejected as the race for his signature hots up.
Couto has a goal and two assists tow his name in spite of the Latics being rooted to the bottom of League Two.
This would be a really good move if we can pull it off.
Not only is he a talented youngster and worthy of the interest on that alone, but we don’t really have a left-back in our under-23s.
Leo Hjelde and Liam McCarron have done a good job there but neither are natural to the position.
While many young players see their chances of senior football diminish completely with a move like this, Couto would be high up the pecking order already, with only Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas to contend with.
