Leeds United’s potential search for a striker this summer could see them pursue a deal for Southampton’s Che Adams, a signing they are said to be “well placed” for.

Survival from the Premier League should be the club’s sole focus as things stand, but Victor Orta and co will be mapping out the summer window on two fronts, planning for both the Premier League and the Championship.

Should Leeds stay up this season, there could be one eye kept on those that face the drop to the Championship.

Who could Leeds sign?

It’s almost impossible to go too long without suggestions that Leeds could sign Southampton striker Che Adams, especially with relegation looking likely for the Saints.

Leeds’ interest in the Scotland international stretches back to the January 2020 transfer window when the Whites had three bids turned down as they sought competition for Patrick Bamford in a bid to secure promotion.

Now, Football Insider are claiming that Leeds are still admirers of the striker and could be set to make an approach in the summer.

How likely is Adams to move to Leeds?

With Southampton arguably the most likely team to face relegation this season, it seems like the striker’s future could be elsewhere, especially with his contract due to run out in 2024.

The report also claims that Leeds are “well placed” to make a successful approach to Southampton for their key striker.

Leeds are in said to be in need of a new signing due to Patrick Bamford’s inconsistency and injury record, while Georginio Rutter still needs time to settle in.

Do Leeds need a striker in the summer?

Yes

No

I would not be convinced at all if Adams was the striker we ended up signing in the summer.

There are so many more viable options that we could get from across Europe and even in the Championship.

Adams might not end up costing a great deal, but that doesn’t mean it’s a signing we ought to be making for certain.

Bringing him in would be adding another player of Bamford’s ilk, just without the injury problems – there’s little in the way of goals there.
