Illan Meslier is Leeds United’s established number one, but the club have lined up Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou as a potential replacement.

Meslier has been the subject of interest from Manchester United and Tottenham in particular according to Phil Hay of The Athletic, and as one of the club’s most saleable assets it is possible that Leeds will sell the 22-year-old shot stopper next summer.

Contingency plans must be in place for this possibility, and The Whites and West Ham United are two sides said to be keeping tabs on Morroco’s Bounou according to reports in Spain.

What year was Meslier born in?

Spanish outlet Fichajes claim that Bounou already has two offers lined up from England for his departure to take place next summer.

They say Bounou, 26, is in the “crosshairs” of Leeds United and West Ham and he may also come cheap in negotiations given his contract is up in 2024.

Spanish journalist Miguel Angel de Miguel Casas claims he is one of Sevilla’s best ever players to have represented the club in recent years, he said: “Since he arrived from Girona, Bono (Bounou) has played a total of 111 games in which he has conceded 92 goals, being one of the best goalkeepers who has passed through the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan throughout the recent history of the Seville team.”

If Leeds do decide to cash in on Meslier, then there are few better options than a goalkeeper as good as Bounou.

It would be an excellent replacement and one Leeds should look to make if he is available due to his contract running down. However, the Moroccan international number one will have plenty of suitors next summer.

Leeds need only look at his record of 52 clean sheets from 111 games to know they will be getting a high quality shot-stopper, and at 26, someone who is still yet to hit his peak years as a goalkeeper.

Can you see Meslier leaving Leeds any time soon?
