Phil Hay has confirmed that links between Leeds United and Ruslan Malinovskyi are credible.
Leeds are on the lookout for midfield recruits at this late stage of the summer transfer window.
A deal to sign Rodrigo De Paul from Udinese isn’t progressing, but there’s a suggestion that attention has turned to another Serie A player.
The man in question is Atalanta ace, Malinovskyi.
The Telegraph were reporting late in the weekend that there was a focus on signing the 27-year-old from Atalanta as a deal for De Paul stalled.
Malinovskyi is a Ukraine international, who scored eight goals and registered three assists in 34 outings for Atalanta in Serie A last season.
The midfielder also helped the Italian side to the latter stages of the Champions League, featuring nine times and scoring once in that competition.
Now, Phil Hay has shared an article from The Athletic, where he confirms that the interest in the midfielder is genuine.
If it isn’t going to be De Paul, the money is there to go high-profile with this midfielder chase.
Malinovskyi is a top player in Europe, although his game-time is sometimes limited in an impressive Atalanta side.
He’s good on the ball, comfortable with both feet, covers the ground well and has a fierce shot on him.
The 27-year-old will tick a lot of boxes in terms of what Marcelo Bielsa wants and his arrival would lift the lingering burden off Pablo Hernandez.
Diego Llorente and a midfielder would round off a fine window for the Whites.
