Leeds United do not plan to spend big when the transfer window reopens, other than to exercise permanent options on a number of their on loan players, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

Of the five players who are currently on loan at Elland Road, Leeds have the option to make four of those moves permanent as part of the initial deal.

Hedler Costa’s move from Wolves is already set to become permanent for £15million this summer, with goalkeeper Illan Meslier and attacking duo Jack Harrison and Jean-Kevin Augustin also having purchase options included in their loan agreements.

According to the latest reports, manager Marcelo Bielsa is committed to those permanent signings, with the price Leeds will have to play also emerging.

Augustin will reportedly cost £18million to secure on a permanent basis, with Harrison and Meslier worth a combined £15million, which, when added to the fee paid for Costa, will take Leeds’ spending to £48million.

It is thought that other than those signings, Bielsa would prefer to improve his squad through development of players and his own coaching methods, as opposed to extensive recruitment, even if the club do win promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years this season.

That could prove to be something of a risk however, given the players who currently make up the Whites’ squad have very little Premier League experience between them.

But with the financial impact of the season’s current suspension likely to be felt by all clubs, not over-spending in the market does seem to be a sensible approach to take in that respect.
