Training under Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is a challenge, but one that can help a player to learn a great deal about the game.

That’s according to young Leeds attacker Joe Gelhardt, who is clearly enjoying his experience of working in the Argentine’s squad.

Having joined Leeds from Wigan Athletic last summer, Gelhardt enjoyed an excellent campaign with the Whites’ youth team last season.

That has seen the attacker work his way on to the fringes of the club’s senior side this time around. The striker has made five senior appearances for Leeds since the start of the season.

Indeed, injury problems in attack even saw Gelhardt handed his first Premier League start on Sunday, with the 19-year-old impressing in a 2-1 defeat to Spurs.

Now it seems as though the teenager is enjoying the experience of working under Leeds boss Bielsa, even if it is a challenging one for him.

Explaining what it has been like to work with the iconic Leeds manager, Gelhardt told the club’s official website: “It is hard being in this team with the physical demands, but once you’ve been training like that for a year and a bit, your body adapts.

“I have learnt so much in a year of being here, the intensity of training, the amount of technical and tactical information. Marcelo Bielsa has been very good to work under and you learn a lot from him.”

This certainly feels good to see for all concerned here.

For Gelhardt, it does seem as though this has been something of an education to work under Bielsa, and to have that at such an early age could be good for the rest of his career.

This meanwhile, is yet another glowing endorsement for Bielsa, who just seems to win praise from almost everybody who is asked about him.

As a result, this looks like it could be a rather profitable link-up for Leeds, and it will be interesting to see just how far Gelhardt is able to go off the back of this experience.
