Leeds United’s chances of staving off relegation this season have been dealt a huge blow during the last set of fixtures in the Premier League.

Sam Allardyce has just three games left to seal survival with Leeds United, having been appointed last week before Leeds’ trip to Manchester City.

That first game in charge for Big Sam brought an unsurprising defeat to the league leaders, but they should take confidence from the performance as they came away from the game only losing 2-1.

However, they did drop down the table into 19th as Everton put five past Brighton, and then Nottingham Forest beat Southampton 4-3 at home.

Here, we look at what the pundits have had to say on Leeds’ chances of staying up…

Ally McCoist’s bleak prediction

With Leeds dropping to 19th and now sitting two points off safety with three tough games left, things are looking rough for the Whites.

Southampton are on the brink with their place in 20th all but certain, but Ally McCoist believes Leeds could well join them in the Championship.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said this about how Everton and Forest have turned the tide with their huge wins on Monday:

“It’s just unbelievable.

“You’ve got to feel that both Leeds United and Southampton are away now.”

What has Jamie Carragher said?

Leeds have three games left: Newcastle at home, West Ham away, and Tottenham at home – three tough fixtures where they are likely to need at least a win.

In terms of their chances of picking up that, especially when thinking about how they are playing right now, relegation is more than a possibility.

Jamie Carragher spoke on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football after Forest’s win, where he said this:

“I felt today’s results could be more important than what happens on the last day of the season and I think that those two results for Everton and Nottingham Forest today puts huge pressure on Leicester and Leeds.

“Three games to go, I think that Everton and Forest if they win another game, they will be ok.

“Leicester would then have to get five points from three games, Leeds the same and we’re talking about teams who are on really poor runs.”
