Leeds United confirmed the signing of Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim last weekend in a club record transfer.

He was ineligible to play in Leeds’ FA Cup clash with Cardiff City on Wednesday night, with the 20-year-old having to wait for this weekend’s meeting with Brentford for the chance of a debut. The clash against the Bees will take place at Elland Road on Sunday at 2pm.

Jesse Marsch has spoken to the media about Rutter and his possible debut and, here, we take a look at TWO things he had to say about Leeds’ latest signing.

Which club did Leeds sign Rutter from?

Rutter the player

Marsch was full of praise for the new boy. The 20-year-old cost a lot of money but it is justified due to his ceiling as a footballer according to the head coach, he said: “An explosive and talented footballer. A player with a lot of potential.”

Asked about where he will be used, Marsch said he believes that Rutter’s versatility and skillset will make him capable of filling different roles, he added: “I think he has flexibility. I think we can use him as a striker, as a wide player, as a second-striker. He’s very open.”

Marsch described him as one of the most ambidextrous players he has come across, he said: “One of the interesting things when we did research on him, right foot vs left foot. When you look at most players they are very right or let foot dominant.

“Someone who is both footed is usually between 20 and 25% on their weak foot, that’s how much they touch and move with the ball on that foot. Georginio is 50:50. He’s maybe the most two footed player I’ve ever seen.”

Rutter the person

Marsch was also quick to outline Rutter being someone who should settle well within the group, he said: “We’ve done our homework and found out very quickly what a good person he is, what a hard worker, how much he wants to try to achieve for himself.”

However, the Leeds head coach was also keen to add that the Frenchman is also a willing learner, with a good level of understanding of the system already, he added: “When you’ve coached players that have been in Germany, there’s a real high level of tactical education.

“I sat down with him and we talked a lot about what we try to do in our laying model and what our tactics and strategy are and he already was very up to speed and understands most of it. It gives me real hope that he can acclimate quickly.”
