Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has claimed that Ben White will be more than happy to stay at the club for the extended season.

Having replaced Pontus Jansson in the summer as the club’s first choice centre-back next to Liam Cooper, Ben White has blown expectations out of the water with his brilliant performances.

A composed and solid defender that can play out from the back, White has been a vital cog in Marcelo Bielsa’s title-chasing side, and it’s no surprise that Brighton are keen on keeping him in the long-term once his loan expires.

Leeds’ more immediate attention has been set on whether they will have their star defender available for the remaining nine games of the season, with the delay running his deal to its original expiry.

However, The Telegraph reported that White will sign a two-month extension to remain at Elland Road until this season’s conclusion, with Graham Potter confirming his stay.

Obviously, this is great news for the club, but the question surrounding the 23-year-old is what his mentality is like regarding his future.

There’s been no word from the defender himself but former Leeds man Danny Mills believes there’ll be no trouble for White sticking around, as he’s made himself very comfortable in West Yorkshire.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills had this to say: “It is good news for Leeds but I always saw it happening.

“I think he is on the path to a great career.

“I am sure he wants to stay at Leeds. He has done a fantastic job and the fans love him.

“Why would you not want to finish the job and get promotion. Even if he went back to Brighton he would not be able to play due to the intricacies of the loan deal.”

It seemed a no-brainer for all parties involved to keep White at Leeds after such a good season but the doubt was still there with lockdown stopping all clubs from operating as they usually would.
