The bottom six in the Premier League are in favour of returning to action when football can resume safely, but only if there is no relegation looming over them in that time, which hasn’t sat right with Leeds United fans looking to climb into the top flight.

Throughout history, Leeds United haven’t been squeaky clean, in terms of their morals towards the game, with Don Revie’s ‘Dirty Leeds’ side the most memorable for that characteristic amongst controversial moments during Marcelo Bielsa’s reign at the club.

With Spygate and the Aston Villa goal from last season, fans, pundits and professionals alike took to their high horses to condemn Leeds for their conduct during moments like this, despite Marcelo Bielsa and the club being awarded the FIFA Fair Play Award for allowing Villa to score in that game.

The Argentine manager has managed to restore an awful lot of the tarnished reputation in this regard since his arrival, building the club’s philosophy along with Adrea Radrizzani to see Leeds held in great esteem.

The current lockdown has seen all clubs dramatically lose a lot of their revenue but the Whites were the first club to defer a large portion of the first-team’s wages to ensure that all Leeds United staff were going to be paid during live football’s absence.

Meanwhile, a handful of Premier League clubs haven’t held themself in similar positive light, with Spurs and Liverpool having to go back on decisions to opt for government funding to pay staff.

On top of this, it has been revealed that the bottom six, rather unsurprisingly, are having strong doubts about returning to action amid their fears of being relegated out of the top flight, one of those being Aston Villa (albeit to a lesser extent than the rest).

The Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’ aims to play games at neutral venues to ensure that finances remain a constant flow to keep the league and the clubs afloat, while maintaining the integrity of the competition by bringing it to a conclusion.

The lack of backing from the bottom six puts the league in a sticky position and doesn’t seem to have the best interests of the rest of the competition at heart, to which Leeds United fans were keen to outline this as they hope to be in the top flight next season, regardless of how they get there…
