Leeds United have been handed a boost in their efforts to sign RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams, with the player itching to leave the club this summer.

Leeds are under pressure to source a top-quality replacement for Kalvin Phillips right now, with a move to Manchester City expected to be completed for a reported £42million initial fee.

Jesse Marsch already has one midfielder through the door in Marc Roca, but will need more as the England international exits the club.

Marsch has already tapped into his Red Bull connections to bring in Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen, and there could be another USMNT midfielder on the horizon for Leeds.

RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams has been mooted frequently for a move to Elland Road, given the style of player Leeds need in the double-pivot next to Roca.

He does feature on Victor Orta’s shortlist too (via the YEP), with the Whites liking the look of what he would bring to Leeds’ high-intensity setup.

Now, German outlet Bild are reporting that Leeds could have a big chance to sign him as he remains eager to leave the Bundesliga.

They claim that his frequent spot on the bench last season under manager Domenico Tedesco has seen him assess his future and aim to leave the club.

Adams is currently still on holiday, and is not due to return to the club until the 4th July, but the headline for this section of the article reads: “Adams and Leeds! Now it can be fast.”

While I still have concerns that our Jean-Kevin Augustin feud will have a significant part to play in these negotiations, that might be the only thing stopping us here.

Adams wants to leave, we want him, and we will have the money to sign him.

Should we resolve that legal debate, I think we can look at signing him very swiftly, especially once Phillips’ exit is confirmed.

However, his holiday does mean that we can’t expect an imminent agreement between the two parties.
