It seems Leeds United could once again be able to call upon Adam Forshaw for their trip to Aston Villa in just over a week’s time.

That’s after the midfielder revealed that he is set to return to training in plenty of time to be ready for that match at Villa Park.

Having worked his way back to fitness after almost two years out with injury, Forshaw has established himself as a regular figure in this Leeds side again this season.

The midfielder has already made 12 appearances in the top-flight during the current campaign, impressing with a string of solid performances.

But after being forced off early on in the 3-2 win at West Ham earlier this month, Forshaw was then absent from the matchday squad for the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle in Leeds’ most recent fixture.

Now however, it seems as though that blow is unlikely to keep him out much longer, with the 30-year-old seemingly keen on a return to action in Leeds’ next outing at Villa.

Discussing the injury he suffered at West Ham, and providing an update on his recovery, Forshaw told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I felt something, but not something really sharp that makes you pull up and I carried on for a couple of minutes but it was just gradually getting worse.

“I sat down and I said to the physio Henry [McStay] I’d give it another try, but he said it’s one of them, if you carry on it’ll get a lot worse, so I have to thank him, it was the right decision because it looks like I’ll only miss one game.

“I went outside for the first time on Tuesday and I’m likely to be training with the team [this] week so it’ll give me a good seven days at least in the lead up to Villa.”

This will no doubt be a big relief for those of a Leeds United persuasion.

With Kalvin Phillips still out due to injury problems of his own, having Forshaw available will provide Leeds with some welcome influence in the centre of the park.

Given Villa have some strong options in that position with the likes of John McGinn and Douglas Luiz, it will also be intriguing to see how Forshaw copes with the challenge of dealing with that threat.

Indeed, having just been out for so long, it is also good to see that the injury he suffered at West Ham will not keep Forshaw out long-term, at a point when he was getting some overdue playing time.
