Leeds United forward Rodrigo was subject to late interest from Barcelona in the summer, and they could come back in January with an offer.
Leeds did say goodbye to a few first-team players in the summer, but Marcelo Bielsa has been keen to keep the core of his squad together at Elland Road.
2020 signing Rodrigo has split opinion with his form since joining from Valencia, and he could have had a route back to La Liga in August.
It was reported towards the back end of the summer window that Barcelona’s search for a new striker took them to Leeds’ Rodrigo, before they eventually signed Luuk de Jong.
The Catalan giants aren’t faring too well at the moment, and could need a January boost to get their Champions League qualification push on track as they sit seventh currently.
This comes with The Athletic’s Phil Hay suggesting that Barcelona’s interest might continue into the January market.
Responding in a Q&A with fans, Hay had this to say on Rodrigo and links to the Nou Camp:
“One interesting thing that came up in the [summer] window was Barcelona’s late interest in Rodrigo.
“I’m presuming that interest is still there.”
I can’t see us budging in our stance on Rodrigo that he’s not going anywhere.
Barcelona would be a tempting move for Rodrigo, given his Brazil and Spain connections, it’s a dream for a lot coming from similar paths as him.
However, it’s not the Barcelona of old right now and there’s no point jumping shop to go to that side and potentially still struggle.
He’s got faith here from the manager and I doubt he’d want to turn his back on that, if Barca wanted him anyway.
