Leeds United defender Diego Llorente suffered another setback on Sunday as he was forced off against Liverpool through injury.

Leeds faced Liverpool this weekend in a game that was overshadowed by injury, despite the Reds’ cruise to a 3-0 win.

Harvey Elliott’s horror ankle injury saw Pascal Struijk red carded in an honest effort to hook the ball away from the Liverpool youngster, only to plant his weight on Elliott on the way down.

Struijk wasn’t even expected to feature in this game as he started on the bench, but he was thrust into action in the first half.

After a lively start to proceedings, Diego Llorente pulled up with an injury shortly after the half-hour mark, making way for the towering Struijk.

Having hobbled off again, concerns are already there about his availability for the trip to Newcastle United this Friday.

After the game, Bielsa offered this update on the Spaniard’s injury, while also sharing why Adam Forshaw was absent (via Phil Hay):

It must be so frustrating for Llorente to have this sort of setback at virtually the same time he did last season.

He’s our best centre-back when he’s up to speed and the more we have him available, the better chance we have of finding our feet.

Robin Koch might have a bit more pressure on him to get to full speed now we’re short on numbers and potentially missing Struijk too.

As for Forshaw, it’s just injury after injury at the moment and it must be knocking his confidence so much to not get the chance to feature.
