Stoke City have registered their interested in signing Leeds United’s Charlie Cresswell, having lost Harry Souttar to Leicester City.

The Whites are unlikely to manage any more surprise late deals in the January window with the deadline mere hours away.

However, it’s been all about centre-back business Leeds have conducted today with Diego Llorente leaving on loan while Diogo Monteiro arrived from Servette.

Monteiro’s arrival spells trouble for the long-term future of Charlie Cresswell, who has struggled on loan at Millwall.

Permanent interest in the defender’s signature was something the club were willing to consider, Leeds All Over sources have confirmed this month.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has now revealed that Championship outfit Stoke City are keen on the defender after losing Harry Souttar today in a £15million move to Stoke City:

Stoke are managed by Alex Neil, who was in charge of Sunderland at the start of the season, where he was interested in taking Cresswell on loan after helping the Black Cats into the second tier.

Should Leeds sell Cresswell?

Cresswell ought to leave Millwall, because it’s not a loan that is working out for him as he sits on the bench.

Gary Rowett looked like a great manager to get the most out of Cresswell, but he’s not giving him the minutes we’d need from this loan, and that looks to be down to the centre-back’s form.

Perhaps Cresswell isn’t the talent once heralded to be the future of our defence, and this move to Stoke is best for all parties.

There isn’t much time for it to materialise though.
