Phil Hay has today revealed that Leeds have taken a good look at Roma midfield/full-back Alessando Florenzi.

Florenzi is a versatile 29 year old who has been at Roma since 2011, though he spent the second half of the season just gone at Valencia, where he made 14 appearances in all competitions until the COVID-19 Pandemic brought the season to a halt.

Florenzi’s versatility is likely to be a key attribute that Bielsa has idenitified. His preference to operate with a smaller squad means players who can be flexible in their positioning ensure he isn’t caught out by sudden injuries or suspensions. See how Stuart Dallas was utilised in both a full-back, winger and defensive central midfield role over the last season.

Sources in the Italian media have routinely praised his hard-work and stamina. Another praised his ‘pressing, steps and insertions’, indicating he has a keen eye of making offensive runs and progressive passes.

Florenzi has also amassed 35 caps for Italy at senior international level.
