Leeds United are hopeful of seeing Rodrigo return to action this week following his month-long injury layoff after injuring his leg against Accrington Stanley.

The Whites have not had it easy over the past few seasons when it comes to injury setbacks in their striker department, with Rodrigo suffering from more than his fair share of problems.

What injury did Rodrigo have?

An away trip to Accrington Stanley saw Rodrigo bafflingly brought on while the game was already sewn up at 3-0, only to pick up a fractured shinbone injury that has since ruled him out with the initial timescale of two months.

Such a setback would have placed him on a recovery schedule of returning for the trip to Arsenal at the start of April, but Rodrigo has since suggested he aims to be back before the international break.

What’s the latest?

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has now shared an update on the Spaniard’s whereabouts as his injury looks to be on the mend.

Writing about Javi Gracia’s need to get the striker back in the squad and firing again, he said:

“The timeline for Rodrigo’s recovery from an ill-timed tackle at Accrington had him reappearing at some stage this month. He was crossing his fingers that he might be fit to feature against Brighton this weekend or, failing that, be back in the squad away at Wolverhampton Wanderers seven days later — in the mix before the international break.”

Rodrigo’s goals could be the difference between us staying up and going down, that’s how important he has become to this side.

He’s taken some time to find a ruthless goalscoring touch but the quality of his finishing this season shows he’s the man we need to be turning to, not Patrick Bamford.

A new manager with a fresh outlook could get even more out of his compatriot, while potentially unlocking Georginio Rutter’s potential at the same time.
