Perfect Debut for Lasogga? Leeds player ratings v Burton

|

Today was an absolutely fantastic day to be a Leeds United fan. We absolutely battered Burton for the whole 90 minutes, when was the last time we’d done that to a team? 30 shots, 10 of which were on target, and of course the 5 goals. If we hadn’t have taken our foot off the gas during the last 20 minutes we could’ve easily had 7 or 8 I’m sure.

Here are our player ratings…

Felix Wiedwald – 8 – He had absolutely nothing to do today. I’m only giving him an 8 because no player on that pitch deserves any less. His distribution was decent enough though and that’s a big part of the way we play under Christiansen.

Onto the defence…

Luke Ayling – 8 – The usual performance you come to expect from Ayling. He didn’t really have too much defending to do but when he did he was solid, supported Roofe well allowing him to drift as he likes to do. His ability on the ball is very much underrated especially when we’re under pressure. I still can’t believe we managed to sign him for £750k.

Pontus Jansson – 8 – A fifth clean sheet in a row in the league for him and Cooper, which shows how much we’ve come on even from last season. Didn’t have too much to do defensively but he was calm and assured. He played two quality cross-field passes which were weighted to perfection. Class at the end as well when he went running back to the Kop to do his little celebration.

Liam Cooper – 8 – Cooper has come on leaps and bounds from the last couple of seasons and he’s now very much important to the way we play, and of course he’s club captain. Did well today, dealt with everything put against him without a problem and was good with the ball at his feet.

Vurnon Anita – 8 – Another solid performance before he was replaced by Stuart Dallas at half-time. He got forward plenty today as well which was good to see and played some nice passes into the likes of Hernandez and Saiz.

Onto the midfield…

Eunan O’Kane – 9 – O’Kane was absolutely outstanding today, everything seemed to go through him and he was all over the park whenever we needed him. You can see how much of an impact he had on the team as things really slowed down after he was subbed. A real driving force in this team, class.

Kalvin Phillips – 8 – Another goal from Kalvin and he’s really looking good under the new style of play. He’s getting forward and getting beyond the midfield which we really missed at times last year when we were too reliant on Hernandez and Wood to make things happen. Good to see him enjoying his football after he was given a lot of stick last season.

Samuel Saiz – 10 – Wow, that is all. How on earth is he playing in the Championship. He’s a class above anything I’ve ever seen at this level. The way he just drifts, picks up the ball and glides past players is just a joy to watch. He’s got so much flair in his locker and he really gets the fans going.

Onto the strikers…

Kemar Roofe – 9 – I was surprised when Roofe was named ahead of Alioski in the side but he was very good today. The link up play between him, Saiz and Hernandez was quality at times, they really know each other’s games and you can see they’ve been working on it in training. Got his goal as well with a very tidy finish which we haven’t seen enough of but that should give him the confidence to kick on now.

Pablo Hernandez – 8 – At times he was the usual frustrating Hernandez who tries the Hollywood pass but he was really good overall. He can glide past players despite lacking the obvious pace and even as he gets older his technical ability still shows. He’s going to be an important player for us this year and he’s clearly a major part of Christiansen’s plans.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga – 10 –
What a beast of a player this guy is. He bullied the Burton centre-halves and won absolutely everything in the air. His control was admirable most of the time and I know it’s only one game but he really does seem like an upgrade on Wood, obviously time will tell but the early signs are there. Got two goals, his first a tidy finish into the bottom right and his second a fantastic header which left the keeper with absolutely no chance. What a signing he looks like being.

What a performance. I know Burton wouldn’t be great but you can only beat what is in front of you. The new signings are really making all the difference. Roofe is a different player this year too. Can’t wait for Birmingham on Tuesday night. M.O.T.

what a team this group would finish in the top 5 in the Premier league
we didn’t even play the incredible Alioski
    Vieria is yet to shine
    Saiz and Lasogga are brilliant
Jansson Ayling and Cooper were awesome

Yes Peter. What a performance. This is a serious group of players and a serious manager. What a job Victor has done! That was a rusty Lasogga we saw there. Just wait until he’s well oiled. And some had been calling for Roofe to retain his place up top! NO!!! The 3 in behind are fantastic, and we have 2 more available. O’Kane is pulling the strings in the middle and Phillips is benefiting. The only worry I have is that Klich and Vieira are way off the pace atm. Klich is so far waiting to impress and could end up being a ‘relatively’ poor signing. The back 4 look fantastic, and there’s very strong cover. Making all this tick is a manager that understands football. I’m convinced that this is it…. promotion as champions beckons. I don’t usually get carried away but I’m telling you, I am majorly excited.

Outstanding performance against poor opposition. But did anyone need to be at their very best to beat them ? I doubt it and hope not. So, save the nine so and tens for when we come up against the better teams in the Division.

Was at the game today. Best game which united dominated for over 10 years. Great atmosphere at the theatre of nuclear noise. We were in third gear for the last 25 minutes of the match but still scored five. We need to keep our feet on the ground and look forward to a rejuvenated Alioski to intimidate Birmingham City. It has happened in the past when enthusiasm increases the number that is followed by a poor performance. Lasogga was man of the match today and should have had a hat trick.
