It was strange to see Luis Sinisterra subdued mood in the Leeds United dressing room after his sending off against Aston Villa on Sunday.

That’s according to Patrick Bamford, who is backing the winger to bounce back and make a big impact for Jesse Marsch’s side in the not too distant future.

Sinisterra joined Leeds in the summer transfer window, providing a fresh option for the club out wide following the departure of Raphinha.

The Colombian international initially started life well at Leeds, with three goals in his first seven appearances for the club.

That however, changed on Sunday, when the 23-year-old was sent off just a few minutes into the second half, being shown a second yellow card for foolishly preventing Villa from taking a free-kick.

Leeds were able to hang on with ten men for a goalless draw, but it seems the winger still took his dismissal hard, although Bamford is confident he will bounce back from that.

Speaking about Sinisterra’s red card and his reaction after the game, Bamford told the club’s official website: “It’s one of them isn’t it, a little bit naive. I think that it’s a yellow card, we can’t really argue with it and Luis knows that it’s tempting to try and block it when they take a quick free kick but you’re not allowed.

“But I think the first yellow was probably not a yellow card, which is the thing. It’s frustrating, I think Luis is partly to blame for the second one and the first one is somebody else’s fault.”

“He’s a happy guy generally, so it’s kind of weird to see him a little bit straight-faced and kind of head between his knees a little bit, but he’ll be fine and he’ll be back and playing well for us soon.”

You do feel that in a way, this is a positive insight into Sinisterra from Bamford.

The fact that the winger’s mood appears to have changed considerably after this incident, does indicate that he knows he messed up here, showing he already cares about the club.

That is better than if he was not taking it seriously, which would have raised questions about his attitude, and frustrated the teammates who had to deal with the fallout from his actions.

It is hard to imagine Sinisterra ever doing anything like that in his career again, so this is something everybody involved should now be able to move on from quickly.
