Leeds United might have eight games left before the end of the season but some attention has already turned to the summer transfer window.

The riches of the Premier League are there for all to see in the huge transfers clubs conduct each season and Leeds were no exception after promotion in July.

We broke our transfer record to bring in Rodrigo from Valencia and he was joined by three other high-profile summer signings, all showing their top-flight credentials so far.

Many clubs do what Leeds have done after sealing promotion but the next task is to continue building so that the ‘second season syndrome’ doesn’t have an impact.

The Whites are in a very comfortable position heading into three very tough fixtures to wrap up April, and there is no pressure surrounding the relegation scrap.

With Leeds’ status in the top flight almost secured officially, there’s good reason to start looking at the summer for potential additions to areas of the team that don’t look strong at the moment.

We know the left-back slot needs some work while depth in midfield positions is also a concern.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has delivered his latest insight into what the summer window could hold at Elland Road as transfers begin to take focus.

He stated in the latest The Phil Hay Show podcast:

It seems to me, the real priority positions are left-back, cover for Phillips, and attacking midfield are the three they definitely, definitely want to do.

I think [Victor] Orta is quite open-minded in what he likes to do. They’re always on their toes that if something comes up at the last minute or at short notice they’ll do it.

They won’t be shy in terms of the amount spent but it won’t be a massive number or a tear up of players.

It’s become very clear which positions need to be focused on in the summer and then anything else we do is a bonus.

Gjanni Alioski’s pending departure leaves a massive chance for us to finally lock down the left-back position with someone consistent and natural to the position.

Meanwhile, in midfield, it’s more of a question of depth as we look to add competition behind both Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich.

We don’t need to directly replace these players in midfield but adding more genuine quality to our ranks can only bring the best out of the players here at the moment.
