Nottingham Forest are monitoring Andre Ayew‘s situation ahead of a clash with Leeds United this weekend.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, who are reporting that Forest are attempting to hijack Everton’s deal for the former Swansea City forward. Ayew is a free agent having left Qatari side Al Sadd in January.

Everton failed to sign a single player in January, but Fabrizio Romano is claiming that the 33-year-old is on their list of free agent choices, he said: “Andre Ayew, on his way to London now to negotiate with two Premier League clubs — including Everton.”

Nottingham Forest are the unnamed other club, according to a report from Tom Collomosse in The Mail.

Everton may have had a quiet January but Steve Cooper’s side were busy in the market once again, adding Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle, Felipe from Atletico Madrid, and Keylor Navas from Paris Saint Germain on deadline day alone, alongside the he captures of Chris Wood, Danilo, and Gustavo Scarpa earlier in the window.

Ayew could be next through the door, with Collomosse reporting that Everton are not necessarily the front-runners for the forward, he said: “It is not a foregone conclusion that he will join them, with at least one other club – namely Forest – keeping watch on the situation.”

Leeds All Over sources are led to believe that Forest are set to pip Everton to his signature as well. He is expected to complete a deal before the game against Leeds this weekend.

More disappointment for Everton in the market is a good thing from Leeds’ perspective, given the respective positions of each side in the table.

Forest have a bloated squad currently but signing another player so Everton can’t is definitely a good thing for the other sides in the battle at the bottom of the table.

Ayew showed his quality for Swansea in the Championship, but it is unclear what sort of level he will come back at now aged 33. The Premier League may be a step too far, but Forest clearly feel they need another option with Morgan Gibbs-White and Jesse Lingard both sustaining injuries recently and the clash with Leeds looming on Sunday.
