Newcastle United may have moved on from Leeds United‘s Jack Harrison, with the club in talks to sign Everton‘s Anthony Gordon.

The Magpies are pushing to sign Gordon, per reports from various journalists, including Fabrizio Romano.

Newcastle hold a long-standing interest in Leeds’ Jack Harrison, though, and talk of his departure has re-emerged this month after they had two bids rejected in the summer for his signature, per The Athletic.

The Daily Mail have reported recently that Eddie Howe is keen on Harrison still, and would be willing to make a late January swoop, should their attempts to land Gordon fall short.

Talks are progressing in Newcastle’s pursuit for Gordon, meanwhile, as Luke Edwards of The Telegraph is reporting. In his recent report, he said:

“Newcastle United are confident they have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Anthony Gordon from Everton, with the player expecting to travel to the North East before the weekend to seal the move.”

Edwards believes Everton are open to the deal, but also that Newcastle have alternative targets in mind above Harrison currently, should a move for Gordon fail to materialise, he added:

“They are hoping to finalise a deal to sign Gordon in the next few days and believe Everton are willing to sell. Newcastle are also sounding out other targets and retain a strong interest in Chelsea midfielder Hakim Ziyech.

“Ziyech could even join on loan, with Newcastle holding an option to buy him in the summer, which holds strong appeal to some members of the club’s recruitment committee.”

The state of play is that the Magpies are not yet meeting Everton’s valuation, but Gordon is keen on the move and has missed training in recent days. Keith Downie of Sky Sports reported that news earlier today, he said: “Anthony Gordon missing from Everton training today – for a second day running – as Newcastle’s pursuit of the attacker intensifies. Gordon is open to the move, Newcastle United want him this window. But there remains a gap in the two clubs’ valuation of the player.”

Potentially good news for Leeds fans.

Newcastle are the biggest admirers of Harrison, and although he may have other admirers, the Whites will feel he is likely to stay should Newcastle secure one of Gordon or Ziyech.

Should Harrison be kept this month, the next port of call will be to resolve his contract situation, as he has only 18 months left on his current deal at Elland Road.
