Leeds United face Newcastle United this weekend hopeful of further extending their gap over the bottom three with a win.

It would be impossible to discuss the buildup to any Premier League game right now without labelling key absentees for either side.

Leeds’ injury dilemmas are vast and getting quite tiresome, but Newcastle have issues of their own.

The Magpies travel to Elland Road at the weekend without star striker Callum Wilson, a blow they remedied by sourcing Burnley’s Chris Wood for a reported £25million.

Centre-back is an area of concern for Eddie Howe too though, with the lack of quality surely something he’s hopeful of improving prior to kick-off.

Transfers are obviously an easy port of call following the takeover, but they could be in for a huge boost by welcoming back Argentine defender Federico Fernandez.

The 32-year-old hasn’t featured since their 4-0 defeat to Leicester City back on the 12th December due to a thigh injury, while they’ve picked up two points since against Manchester United and Watford.

His post on Instagram has teased a return to the side, possibly this week, and has been relayed by the club’s Twitter account with a simple message prior to the Leeds trip:

It would sort of level the playing field a tad of Newcastle had a wealth of injuries to be concerned with too.

I can see us being in for another positive boost in Patrick Bamford this week, but I have little concern anyway if we can put in a display similar to that of the West Ham game.

Newcastle are there to be beaten at the moment and if we can get three points, that should see us fans rest a lot easier about the relegation scrap.

Fernandez is a big boost to them though and if they can seal a centre-back signing before the weekend, they’ll look a lot stronger.
