‘New challenge’ – Imminent Leeds United arrival bids farewell to club

|

Imminent Leeds United signing Mateo Joseph has bid farewell to Espanyol as the signing moves towards confirmation.

Leeds are kicking off their January transfer window with some under-23s housekeeping.

As one striker seals a loan with Ryan Edmondson heading to Port Vale, one is arriving from RCD Espanyol.

He’s seemingly completed a medical after reports this morning, and has now taken to Instagram to bid farewell to the club he’s leaving for Elland Road:

Farewells are never easy, much less if I have to say goodbye to what has been my home for so many years. I still remember the first day this trip started. I have had to make sacrifices and efforts to be part of one of the best quarries in Spain, but I feel that it has been worth it. As a parakeet I have learned and grown both on a personal and a football level. I take a backpack loaded with values, memories and great moments. I cannot leave RCD Espanyol without thanking all the people who have made this possible. Colleagues, coaches, friends and hundreds of professionals who have helped me improve every day. To never stop and always have the ambition to want to grow and continue to progress. Making this decision has not been easy, but I am convinced that it is the right thing to do and what my head and my heart tell me to do. A new challenge opens in my career in which I will put all my energy and determination. I will always be one more parakeet. GRÀCIES RCESPHNUL Mateo Joseph

This is a great investment for Leeds.

We’re essentially announcing that Joe Gelhardt is a first-team player now and with that comes the need to replace him in the under-23s.

We’re doing that very well here with Joseph’s goal scoring record at youth level in Spain.

He’s done it against some very good sides as well, and this could turn out to be some coup in the future.
