It seems Alex Moreno will not be making his debut for Aston Villa when they host Leeds United at Villa Park on Friday night.

That’s after a report from Birmingham Live revealed that the left-back is unlikely to be available to feature for Unai Emery’s side in that match.

Villa completed their first signing of the January transfer window, and since Emery’s appointment on Wednesday, when they announced the signing of Moreno.

The 29-year-old has joined from La Liga side Real Betis for a reported £13.3million on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

Ironically, Junior Firpo is among those who have been touted as a potential replacement for Moreno at Betis, a club the Leeds full-back has previously played for.

However, it seems that Leeds themselves may not be coming up against Moreno himself, when they make the trip to the Midlands tomorrow night.

According to this latest update, despite the fact that he trained with his Villa teammates for the first time on Wednesday when the deal was announced, it is unlikely the 29-year-old will be available for Friday night’s clash with Leeds.

It doesn’t feel like a huge surprise that Moreno will not be playing on Friday night.

Given the timing of the transfer which likely any deal is subject to international clearance, it would require a very quick turnaround for him to be eligible for that match with Jesse Marsch’s side.

Even if he was to be eligible, Emery may be reluctant to throw him straight into the side, given the lack of time he has had to work with his new teammates, and adapt to his surroundings.

Indeed, with the likes of Lucas Digne, Ashley Young and Ludwig Augustinsson all options at left-back, there is no real need to rush Moreno straight into action either.
