With the transfer deadline passing by without even a rumour of a signing, it looks like Brian McDermott will dive into the emergency loan market in order to further strengthen his Leeds squad. The boss has made no secret of the fact we’re in major need of width in order to be more of an attacking threat. Playing the diamond, we just haven’t got enough edge in the final third and don’t really look like convincingly winning a game, by say 3 or 4 goals.

The loan market may also give us a chance to offload the garbage that Warnock has left us with. It’s fairly obvious Norris, White, Brown and Hall are rarely going to play in our first-team so hopefully teams will come in and take them off of us. For 3 months, anyway.

It was revealed after last nights deadline that for the second transfer window in a row, we’d missed out on Birmingham winger, Chris Burke. Other wide men that we might have been interested in – Cameron Stewart of Hull who’s joined Charlton on loan, and Michael Kightly of Stoke City who’s moved to Burnley. There’s nothing saying we were interested in these players, however they would have strengthened our squad and surely would have jumped at the chance to join Leeds.

Nevertheless, it is what it is and for the time being (hopefully only for a few weeks) we’ve got to deal with a squad with no wingers. If we can continue to stay in games the way we are and keep picking up points, then when we do improve the squad – and I’m confident we will sign a couple of wingers – it puts us in good stead for the rest of the season.

So onto the potential wingers, who would be available?

Yannick Bolasie – The Crystal Palace winger was a star for them in their promotion season. For me, when I saw them on TV he was better than Zaha a lot of the time. What would he bring to Leeds? Roar pace, unpredictability when taking on a man. Not the best goal scoring record but I think he’d provide plenty of excitement and many assists. He’s also the cousin of former United player, Tresor Kandol.

Jordan Ibe – A Liverpool winger, just 17 years old and has massive potential to be a very good player. He made his professional league debut for Wycombe when he was just 15 years-old. As with the majority of young English players he was snapped up by a big Premiership club. He appeared in their final match of the 12/13 season assisting Coutinho for their only goal in a 1-0 win. A lot of talent as I’ve said, no experience at this level but I’d definitely take him on loan and give him a chance. Any winger is better than no winger.

Stephen Hunt – The Irishman has played 39 times for his country and is currently a free agent, meaning we could sign him at any time. Although he is 32 I think he could be a good addition to the squad till the end of the season. I think he would fit in well at Leeds because he loves a tackle and has the passion Leeds fans love. Stephen can also take a very good set piece, something we have been missing recently. With him we might finally have some good supply to the strikers, best of all he never stops running.

I think signing any of these would give us a better chance of getting into the playoffs, hopefully McDermott pulls something out of the bag. We would like to hear your views as always? Who do you want us to sign?
