Leeds United defender Max Wöber made his debut for the club yesterday as he helped Jesse Marsch’s side claw back a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City in the FA Cup.
Leeds have never made FA Cup draws look easy in the last few years, with their last win in the competition coming back in 2017 under Garry Monk.
A draw away to Cardiff City presented a chance for Jesse Marsch to make some changes to the side that drew to West Ham last time out, with Max Wöber part of the matchday squad for the first time since his £10million move from Red Bull Salzburg.
Initially starting on the bench, the Austrian defender was introduced for his debut in tricky circumstances, as Leeds found themselves two goals down while Wöber came on in central midfield.
His performance from the bench helped Leeds claw their way back into the tie as Leeds dominated the final third of the match, with goals from Rodrigo and then Sonny Perkins at the death earned a replay.
Wöber shared this post on Instagram reacting to his debut:
Is Maximilian Wöber a good signing?
Yes
No
As much as Marsch has to take a lot of the blame for our struggles lately, the changes got us back into the game.
Wöber isn’t a central midfielder, but you wouldn’t have known it from the way he played for Leeds yesterday, commanding from the moment he stepped onto the pitch.
We knew that we were getting a natural leader when we signed him from Salzburg, and even this performance off the bench proved it.
