Leeds United look likely to have Djed Spence back in the squad for tonight’s meeting with Swansea City, but he’s not expected to start the game.

In the Championship, we’re building up to a crucial period for the promotion race as Leeds and their rivals all face very busy schedules.

To cope with such a run of games, Daniel Farke will be grateful that his squad is getting much closer to being at full strength.

Djed Spence back in the squad?

The international break wasn’t long enough for Djed Spence to fully recover and be in the squad for the trip to Rotherham United on Friday, but the break between then and tonight has handed Farke a massive boost.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the German confirmed that there are “no question marks” with his injury list other than Stuart Dallas being still out, which means that Djed Spence has trained well since the Millers draw and could be in the squad – per Phil Hay:

Will Spence start?

When Farke has brought back a lot of his players from long-term setbacks, it’s been a case of baby steps, such as Junior Firpo and Patrick Bamford being eased back into involvement.

For Spence, fans will see him travel with the squad and be delighted, hoping to see him dancing down the wing and setting up chances like he was expected to, but he’s not going to start tonight, you’d imagine.

Archie Gray has done a stand-up job at right-back despite being a teenager playing out of position, and will continue to cover for Spence as he returns to full speed.

The last thing we need is for Spence to be finally back to near full fitness, and we rush him back to cause another injury.

A stint later in the game is what looks most likely.
