Marcelo Bielsa has reiterated his commitment to Leeds United amid speculation surrounding his future, as he plans for a long stay at Elland Road.
He took over back in the summer of 2018 and not many expected this to be his longest-serving tenure in management, but Bielsa has formed a strong connection with Leeds United.
Today marks 1000 days since he took over, and the Argentine can already call his stint at Leeds a rousing success, even if he was to leave tomorrow.
While Bielsa packing his bags all of a sudden might be a lingering fear, after his two-day spell at Lazio, it’s not something that’s even in the question at Leeds.
There’s quite clearly a very strong working relationship between Bielsa and those he has to work with higher up, such as Victor Orta.
It’s why there is a lot of belief that he will stay on in the summer and look to build the squad towards an even stronger finish in 2021/22.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Chelsea clash, Bielsa had this to say on his mindset (via Leeds Live): “I always think that I’m going to stay forever in all the jobs that I take and I go from day to day thinking I’m going to be here the rest of my life.
“At the same time, it’s a profession that usually has interruptions. it is far more common that a manager is fired than he stays in the same place for a long time.”
It’s such a positive mindset to have that he wants to stay for as long as he’s welcome, and based on the reception he gets from Leeds fans, he’ll never outstay his welcome.
Managers do come and go from clubs and the time will eventually come for Bielsa, but we’re quite clearly extremely happy with his influence and that will remain the case for a while.
He’s got what it takes to help us challenge for the top six in the coming seasons and deserves the chance to try.
What is certain from quotes like this is that there is a plan in place for Bielsa to be here next season and continue growing this squad.
