Marcelo Bielsa has delivered an update on four Leeds United players looking to return from injury setbacks soon.

The international break is over and Leeds come out of it with an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

There was hope prior to the weekend that key players would have been able to use this fortnight off to step up their recovery process and make themselves available.

Five senior members of Leeds’ first team are currently out injured: Patrick Bamford (ankle), Luke Ayling (knee), Robin Koch (hip), Junior Firpo (muscular), Jamie Shackleton (muscular).

All of those – minus Koch – are players that are expected to come back into the side very soon, but the extended delay is a rousing concern from the fanbase.

With the Spurs clash looming on Sunday, Bielsa spoke in his pre-match press conference, providing an update on all four players and whether they’re nearing a return.

He stated (via the club’s official Twitter account):

“Junior is evolving, he’s healthy, all he needs is minutes now. Jamie similar situation, he’s towards the end of recovery. Patrick and Luke not available for Sunday. Robin is further away.”

Another game goes by where we’re not going to be at our strongest.

It’s a real shame because I would fancy out chances of going to Spurs and winning if we had both full-backs starting an Bamford up front.

However, there were positive signs against Leicester that we can in fact cope without these players.

This update seems to suggest Firpo and Shackleton will be back next week while we still have no clue about Ayling and Bamford.

I am surprised we don’t have any of these players fit though after two weeks of international break.
