Leeds United look set to welcome fans back to Elland Road for the final game of the season against West Bromwich Albion, and Marcelo Bielsa has offered his verdict.

Leeds have been without fans since the home calsh against Huddersfield back in 2020, and a lot has happened since that encounter.

The Whites have since clinched promotion to the Premier League and look a certainty to finish well in the top half.

On Wednesday, the Premier League released a statement outlining the plans for fans to return for the final two games of the season.

What that means for Leeds is that fans will be present at both the trip to Southampton, and the final day home clash against West Brom.

Fans will only be allowed to attend home games so Leeds fans get one chance to see their team live before the end of the season and that’s against the relegation-threatened Baggies.

It’s a huge boost for football and a great way to sign off what’s been a brilliant campaign for the Whites.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s clash with Tottenham, Marcelo Bielsa gave his verdict on the news of fans returning via Leeds Live):

Of course, it will be very good if that can happen. It would permit the contact between the fans and the players. How important that relationship is and also show an improvement in the situation in England.

To be able to experience the fans at Elland Road in particular is an experience always worth living. Even if the stadium will be partially occupied, it’s a way to experience how the fans behave with the players. That’s a very pleasing sensation. It’s one of the prizes not economic, one of the most valuable things in football.

It’ll be so good hearing authentic crowd noise at Elland Road for that West Brom game, whether I’m there or not.

We’re so close to being back to the normality of football in this country and this is the next step along the way.

Bielsa’s verdict is exactly how everyone should see it really. Even with limited capacity, it’s still a momentous occasion and the fans will make their voices known.

It’s crazy to think a lot of our players in the starting lineup won’t have played in front of a Leeds crowd yet.
