Saturday saw Kalvin Phillips finally make his return for Leeds United as the midfielder stepped off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Southampton at Elland Road.

Leeds have been without Phillips since December’s 2-2 draw with Brentford at Elland Road, but Jesse Marsch was boosted by the midfielder giving him 25 minutes on Saturday.

Phillips, 26, took to Instagram in wake of his comeback to send the standard message to supporters and reflect on his time out of the side.

As well as plenty of Leeds supporters reacting, there was also messages from Phillips’ teammates.

Raphinha, Liam Cooper, Luke Ayling, Sam Greenwood, Robin Koch, Stuart Dallas and Rodrigo all offered support to Phillips, as well as former players like Leif Davis and Barry Douglas.

There was also a message from Manchester City’s Jack Grealish, who couldn’t resist having a dig about Phillips’ interesting choice of footwear (you know the ones) out and about in Leeds earlier in the week.

It’s been a tough period for Leeds without Phillips and there was a lot of tension lifted at Elland Road when he stepped onto the pitch in the 66th minute on Saturday.

Supporters have been waiting for his return, whilst you imagine that’s shared with those in the Leeds dressing room given these messages.

As for Grealish, we know about the relationship Phillips shares with the Man City forward, so it’s little surprise to see him welcoming Phillips back.

And, as for his reference to Phillips’ shoes, it was only so long before somebody mentioned them!
