Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph has been called up to the England under-20 squad for the upcoming international break.

The Whites are nearing a break that could be crucial for Javi Gracia fine-tuning his squad in the bid for survival, with international fixtures returning for the first time since the World Cup.

Despite the club’s lowly position, call-ups have still been on the cards for a number of players both in the senior and youth ranks.

Who has been called up this week?

Following on from the senior call-ups for Max Wรถber (Austria), Liam Cooper (Scotland), Brenden Aaronson and Weston McKennie (UMSNT), there have been plenty of youth call-ups too.

Charlie Cresswell has been named in the England under-21 side, while Illan Meslier is in France’s, however, there is a new name in the England under-20 setup.

Leeds’ young striker Mateo Joseph has been called into Ian Foster’s side for fixtures against Germany, USA, and France:

Joseph qualifies to play for both Spain and England, having been born in Spain to a Spanish mother and an English father.

This seems to be a major indication of which way Joseph will decide to go with his international allegiances.

He has the potential to play for either country in the future, but it says a lot that he has opted to be called up to England for now.

Joseph has more than deserved this chance after being one of the best strikers in the PL2 setup this season, and I think we’ll be hearing more and more about him over the coming months.
