Manchester United could have been without a number of players had their meeting with Leeds United gone ahead on Sunday afternoon.

That’s according to a report from The Sun, which claims the club has been hit by a bout of food poisoning after their Europa League game in Moldova on Thursday night.

Although some Premier League fixtures resumed over the weekend following the death of the Queen, Leeds were once again not in action.

Jesse Marsch’s side had been scheduled to travel to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon to face Manchester United, although the game would not go ahead, due to concerns over a lack of available police resources.

Now it seems as though the postponement of that game, came at a rather useful time for the Red Devils.

According to this latest update, 12 players and staff at Manchester United have been suffering from food poisoning, since returning from their 2-0 win over Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday.

It is thought that a number of players have missed training, with it said to be unclear to what extent Erik Ten Haag’s side would have been affected, had the game gone ahead.

You feel this is something Leeds may now see as a bit of a missed opportunity.

It is entirely possible that had this game gone ahead, they would have been playing a weakened Manchester United side, which would have given them a good chance of claiming three points.

Ultimately though, that has all become irrelevant, with the game having already been postponed prior to the Red Devils’ trip to Moldova.

That means it will be quite some time for Leeds to wait between games, and it will be interesting to see how they have coped with the challenge of maintaining their fitness, when they face Aston Villa at the start of October.
