It’s been over two years since the infamous Leeds United ‘salute’ badge went viral across the globe as Andrea Radrizzani and his boardroom team looked to revitalise the Elland Road brand with a new club crest.

The 2017/18 season saw a lot of experimentation both on and off the pitch as Radrizzani was getting to grips with the football ownership and the English game, as well as Leeds United from a brand perspective.

The Whites overhauled their squad thanks to the sale of Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor while they also brought in Thomas Christiansen to replace Garry Monk, with mixed results seeing him sacked for Paul Heckingbottom.

While Leeds pushed for the top six in the early stages of the season, the lack of strength in mentality saw them fall out of the running and languish in mid-table.

Perhaps the most memorable part of the season didn’t happen on the pitch, when it was revealed that the club were to unveil a new badge in preparation for the centenary celebrations in 2019, to which they announced a badge branded ‘absolutely awful’ for its tacky design and lack of connection with what the fans really wanted from their badge.

The badge was swiftly scrapped after immense backlash, while fans from far and wide drafted up their ideas of what a potential new badge should look like, which is still going on to this day.

Taking from the similar gold tones that Radrizzani and the kit developers seem very keen on, this badge pays homage to the history of the club with a central peacock surrounded by the Yorkshire rose and a subtle nod to the ‘Smiley’ badge towards the outside.

The Leeds owner came across the badge design on Twitter and praised him for it, much like many other fans:
