Though promotion sent the city of Leeds sent a city into a state of ecstasy, celebrations were somewhat dampened by the news that Gaetano Berardi was facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Berardi’s tough and big-tackling nature has earned him the nickname the ‘Leeds Warrior’ since he arrived in Yorkshire from Serie A outfit Sampdoria in 2014.

But alas, the centre-back picked up a nasty knock in Leeds’ penultimate game of the season at Derby. As a result, it was announced Gaetano would face up to 9 months out on the sidelines. This situation was made more difficult by Berardi’s contract coming to an end this summer, many fans have since called for an extension as a thanks for his services to the club.

Leeds fans should be warmed by Berardi’s update today, though. A ‘thumbs up’ and smile were central as Gaetano underwent the necessary medical process.
