Leeds v Doncaster player ratings

|

Well, what can I say about last night? If not for two moments of madness then we’d have won the game. Despite Cook’s red card, if Wootton wasn’t stupid we’d still have won. So, onto the ratings.

Ross Turnbull – 9 – I thought he dealt with everything really well, he commanded his area and collected crosses easily. His only error was not saving the penalty but I suppose you could say at least he got to it.

Onto the defence –

Gaetano Berardi – 8 – Thought he had another excellent game, dealt with everything in his way in a calm and collected manner. There appears to be no sign of him making a massive error, which seemed ominous at the start of last season. Top quality right-back.

Giuseppe Bellusci – 8 – He had a really good game to be fair, solid, no mistakes. If he played like this every week then I would have no issues, although it would be nice if he would shut-up for a minute or two per game.

Liam Cooper – 6 – He was decent, but one really bad error which almost cost us a goal showed that he still needs to improve. We do have to remember that we signed him from League two so it’s expected that it’d take him a while to adjust.

Charlie Taylor – 7 – Charlie Taylor is one of those that will always have a good game and occasionally do something special, yesterday he was good again, he’ll probably play every game for us this season.

Into the midfield…

Scott Wootton – 5 – Really poor performance I thought, the penalty was absolutely awful to give away. He didn’t offer anything really, Adeyemi a much better option.

Lewis Cook – 3 – Obviously has to be rated low because of his red card, but just looking at the time he did play he’d be an 8. He scored his first goal for Leeds and you could see how much it meant to him.

Alex Mowatt – 6 – Had a quiet game really but you’d still expect him to play against Reading. Didn’t do anything major wrong last night, just wasn’t really in the game.

The forwards…

Souleyemane Doukara – 5 – I just don’t think he’s good enough to play for Leeds, didn’t offer anything last night, looked knackered after about 5 minutes.

Stuart Dallas – 7 – I really like the look of Dallas, clearly not fully match fit but he works really hard and he reminds me a bit of a quicker Snodgrass (not saying he’s better).

Mirco Antenucci – 9 – Thought he was excellent, I think he should start against Reading because he’s played well both times he’s been on the pitch this season, better than Chris Wood for sure so far.

The substitutes…

Sam Byram – 5 – Didn’t offer anything apart from a few poor decisions going forward and a missed penalty, I’m sure he’ll start on Sunday.

Luke Murphy – 6 – You can tell he’s not fully fit but he’s still one of my favourite Leeds players, always tries to create something when he’s on the ball.

Chris Wood – 4 – Offered even less than Sam Byram and his penalty was worse too, hope he comes good soon.

Overall last night was literally the worst we could have hoped for. If we were going to lose I’d rather have lost in 90 minutes considering our hectic schedule. Also Chris Wood probably should have started because he really needs match fitness, looks a shadow of himself at the moment. If we’re to beat Reading, Wootton can’t start.

Just a couple of thoughts on what you have said, completely agree Doukara not good enough. Antenucci I really like, but he can’t play as target man, not up to now anyway, he’s not good enough in the air and he keeps drifting out wide, still hope Uwe can work him though. MOT

Doukara, Wootton and Cooper all need to move on. Doukara can’t run, head a ball or tackle. Wootton and Cooper out of their depth. Why continue to pay out wages for players who are never going to make an impact! Dallas looking a brighter prospect.

  • RZR says:

None of them deserve to put on a Leeds United shirt. Total rubbish the lot of them.

Ridiculous to only give Wood 4/10.He made us look a much better team Infact we were the stronger team in extra time.Poor penalty apart, gave them someting to worry about!

    • Guy says:

Jury still out on Wood. He looks a bit cumbersome and not very confident at present. Didn’t think he was that good against Burnley really. Maybe things will get better with time!
