Leeds United have yet to show a genuine interest in Reading midfielder John Swift ahead of the January transfer window.
That’s according to a report from Leeds Live, who also say that the 26-year-old himself is expecting to stay with his current club beyond next month.
Midfield looks to be a position Leeds will simply have to strengthen in January, having badly struggled for options in the first half of this season.
With Swift in fine form for Reading – with eight goals and nine assist so far this season – it was claimed earlier in the campaign that Leeds were among the top-flight sides considering a January bid for the midfielder.
However, it now seems that an offer may not be forthcoming from Leeds, at the turn of the year.
According to this latest update, Leeds have yet to show any serious interest in a move for Swift ahead of January, despite three other Premier League teams doing so.
It is also claimed that there is interest in the 26-year-old from Turkey and Saudi Arabia, although the midfielder is apparently not expecting to leave the club anytime soon.
That is due to the fact that Reading will reportedly demand a huge fee for Swift’s services in January, despite the midfielder being out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
This is an interesting one to consider from a Leeds United perspective.
Swift is a high quality player who you feel could help their cause, and it may be frustrating if they were to miss out here to a Premier League rival.
However, you can understand why Leeds may want to hold off if Reading are demanding a big fee here, for a player they could sign for free in just a few month’s time.
As a result, this may be one that Leeds ought to be keeping an eye on, while also looking for potential other options to fill this role in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
