Mateusz Klich produced a quality display in Leeds United’s 3-1 EFL Cup victory over Barnsley on Wednesday night.
Leeds boss Jesse Marsch opted for nine changes to his side for Barnsley’s visit to Elland Road, including Klich coming into the side.
The Polish international was impressive from the first whistle, dictating play from an advanced midfield position.
After Luis Sinisterra’s opening goal and then the electric winger winning a penalty, Klich converted for his first goal of the season. That personal tally was doubled early in the second-half with a sweeping finish.
Indeed, the goals were Klich’s first for Leeds in a competitive match since August 2021, when the 32-year-old struck in Leeds’ 2-2 draw with Everton at Elland Road.
Over on Instagram, Klich gave a nod to that with a simple message:
Leeds United quiz: Has Mateusz Klich scored a goal against the following 15 clubs?
It was a masterclass from Klich last night, pulling the strings against League One Barnsley.
Of course, it’s League One opposition, but Klich was superb with everything he did.
The midfielder converted the penalty cooly, whilst his finish in the second-half was equally composed.
Klich had a smile on his face and clearly enjoyed his evening’s work.
After a tough couple of months it was good to see another reminder of what the fan favourite can do.
