England’s training for the World Cup is underway, and former Leeds United man Kalvin Phillips is there with the squad after recovering from injury.
There is no longer a Leeds United player in the Three Lions squad, but Kalvin Phillips is still a player many Leeds fans will be keeping an eye on through the tournament.
After barely playing this season, he recovered from shoulder surgery in time to be named in Gareth Southgate’s final squad for the World Cup.
As much as he’s no longer Leeds’ player, he’ll still be cheered on by the fans and encouraged by his old teammates.
Phillips took to Instagram to share his arrival in Qatar, to which Luke Ayling and Barry Douglas replied:
Which position is most important in January?
Striker
Left-back
Central midfielder
Other?
As much as I would love to see Phillips starting every game for England, I just don’t think it’s the best option for us.
We have Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice absolutely flying for their clubs and they need to be playing together.
Phillips’ presence in the camp is important though, after having such a huge impact during the Euro’s where England really should have won it.
