Leeds United’s change in stance identified after recent transfer move

|

It seems Leeds United have altered their plans for the January transfer window by making an attempt to sign Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson.

That’s after a report from The Express claimed that Director of Football Victor Orta had not been planning to spend money this month, before pursuing the American international.

Reports from The Athletic earlier this week claimed that Leeds have had a £15million bid for Aaronson rejected by Salzburg.

Despite the fact that the Austrian giants are apparently keen to keep the 21-year-old, Leeds are said to be intent on signing him this month.

Now it seems as though that represents something of a change in stance from the club, to their initial approach to the January transfer window.

Having paid some significant fees to sign the likes of Junior Firpo, Jack Harrison and Dan James in the summer, this latest update claims that Leeds had initially not intended to spend money on new senior signings this month.

However, it is thought that has changed due to their desire to sign Aaronson, with Orta said to see the 21-year-old as a perfect fit for the club, who matches their long-term vision.

You feel this may be a welcome update for those of a Leeds United persuasion.

By changing their stance to make this move for Aaronson, this does seem to show that even if the club are reluctant to spend, the funds are there, and they are willing to use them if necessary.

Indeed, you feel this is something of a similar situation to what we saw towards the end of the summer window, when the club made their move for James, highlighting their opportunistic nature in the market.

As a result, if it becomes clear that Leeds are unable to sign Aaronson, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to invest these funds on other potential targets.
