So as you’re probably aware our away form is proving our Achilles heel so far this season with just 2 wins at Ipswich and Bolton in 8 games, so how does this compare to previous season in the second tier of English football.
I have taken a look back from season 89-90 when we last won promotion back to the old First Division, seasons 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07 when we were previously in the Championship and finally seasons 2010-11, 11-12 and 12-13. So here goes:
In Season 89-90 we won 8 and we won our first away game at the third attempt with a 1-0 win at Hull and won the league!
In Season 04-05 we won 6 and we won our first away at the fourth attempt with another 1-0 win at Plymouth
In Season 05-06 we won 8 and we won our first away game at third attempt with another 1-0 win at Norwich and made the play offs!
In Season 06-07 we won 3 out of 23 games, and we won our first away game at the third attempt with another 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday
In Season 10-11 we won 8 and we won our first away game at the second attempt with a 1-0 win at Watford and finished seventh just outside the play offs
In Season 11-12 we won 6 and won our first away game at the fifth attempt with a 3-0 win at Doncaster, finishing in mid table.
In Season 12 13 we won 4 away games from 23, and we won our first away game at the second attempt and again finishing in mid-tale.
So in total we have won 45 from the last 169 away games to be played at this level of English football!!
MAYBE WE ARE CURSED AWAY FROM ELLAND ROAD!!!
And of course we have had numerous managers that have tried to win games away from Elland Road! Howard Wilkinson, Kevin Blackwell, John Carver, Dennis Wise, Simon Grayson, Neil Redfearn, Neil Warnock and Brian McDermott!
