Leeds United v Atalanta player ratings

A decent game to end Leeds United’s pre-season friendlies, this is purely my opinion on how everyone played.

GK – Rob Green – 7 – Not the best game but pulled off one or two world-class saves, you could hear him talking a lot more than Silvestri and that’s already a massive bonus.

RB – Trialist – 5 – I really didn’t rate him to be honest, he wasn’t up to Coyle or Berardi’s level so why should we sign him? If we do I think it’s massively down to Cellino rather than Monk himself which would be a shame.

CB – Kyle Bartley – 7 – Bartley was solid for me, early stages of course but I would say an upgrade over what we had last season, not like that’s hard to achieve. He adds height that we’ve lacked from our back line, I personally think him and Cooper should be our first choice CB’s, although we definitely need to sign another.

CB – Sol Bamba – 6 – In this game overall he played at an acceptable level, but you could see the mistakes were there to be made and he did make a few, I really wouldn’t be comfortable with him starting for us this season.

LB – Charlie Taylor – 8 – You know what you get from Charlie, one of the best left backs in the league, a few people were booing him but that’s definitely not on. He very rarely gets beaten, by anyone.
Into midfield…

CM – Toumani Diagouraga – 4 – Very poor from him today, I really don’t think he should be in our starting lineup for QPR, what exactly does he offer to the team? Because I have no answer for that.

CM – Ronaldo Vieira – 9 – This man is the next Lewis Cook, genuinely. He was our best player by far today to continue a great pre-season. He drives the ball forward from deep with pace and he has a good pass on him, familiar?

CAM – Alex Mowatt – 5 – Poor from Mowatt today, he just didn’t get involved which is a massive shame because we know how good he can be in his preferred position.

Onto the forwards..

RM – Stuart Dallas – 5 – Wasn’t really in the game at all, didn’t seem match fit.

LM – Kemar Roofe – 8 – This guy is clearly a player, pace and trickery coming out of his ears, he will definitely score and create goals for us this season, I can’t wait to see him play again.

ST – Chris Wood – 6 – Didn’t have many opportunities today really but I wouldn’t say it was his fault, he won the majority of headers and flick-ons, took his penalty well, personally I think he’ll have a great season.

Only two subs had enough time to make an impact, Coyle (7) was an instant improvement on the trialist and Sacko (8) was an improvement on Dallas on the day, he has pace to burn and put in a few great crosses that we were unlucky not to score from. All in all, a positive game with a positive outcome, clearly we are still lacking a few players but it seems to be a better team than last year.

Too many average, similar players in our squad.
In attack we did very little, and in defence we looked fragile.
Sol was sloppy and Bartley was no better than Cooper, and too casual.
    Too much like Sol!!!!
Viera was really good, as was Roofe, but I saw nothing to make me think we would not be strugglers this season again.
Of all the players we have brought in I can only see Roofe starting at QPR.
It makes no sense at all to have a big clearout, and then bring in more benchwarmers.
    Cellino has stiffed us again.

Have to disagree with you in general, but in particular about Bartley. Like Bamba? What an insult to the lad! He was where we needed him, every minute of the match. Didn’t put a foot wrong. No better than Cooper? I personally rate Cooper, and look forward to his partnership with Bartley.

Oh, and Roofe is the only newcomer to start at QPR, is he? So who exactly is going to partner Bamba at CB? An injured Cooper who has had zero game time this season? Please enlighten us.

And why has Cellino stiffed us again? Monk is calling the shots – he’s already thrown suggestions out. That’s why the recruitment has slowed right down.

A penalty & a scrappy goal can’t paper over the cracks, our squad is lightweight to say the least

You’ve captured my thoughts exactly, but for 2 players:

Diagouraga – I thought he had a good game. Closed down space, made tackles & interceptions, & played the simple ball. Exactly what we pay him to do. 8/10 for me.

Sahko – very unconvincing for me. I only counted 2 crosses, and both were ill-timed Although he crossed in the right areas, a slight delay would have allowed more targets into the box. I also believe that his first cross shouldn’t have been a cross – he should have been brave enough to run at the keeper & go for goal. He actually looked detached from play for most of the half, and either didn’t tackle back or was slow to do so, exposing inexperienced Coyle. I hate when wingers do that. Fingers crossed, though!

No way was Taylor an 8 at best a 6 – I’m a big fan but didn’t get involved in the game.

Sacko – again defo not an 8 and was more like a 6. He made a very slow start, giving away possession but got more involved towards the end but wouldn’t feel with him starting going into the season.

Mowatt was extremely disappointing as was Bamba.

I thought Wood deserved a 7. He did everything asked of him and tucked away the penalty really well.

Viera by far the best player on the pitch.

We clearly need another centre half, left back (no real cover – lets get Henry), exp centre midfield (maybe Bridcutt), winger (Pritchard?)
