The search for Jesse Marsch’s permanent successor at Leeds United goes on with Nuno Espírito Santo set for further talks this week.

The Whites moved to sack Marsch two weeks ago following a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, leaving Michael Skubala in caretaker charge of the last three league games, including back-to-back fixtures with Manchester United and then a 1-0 defeat to Everton this weekend.

What month did Jesse Marsch take over the club?

One name briefly mentioned in a report by The Athletic was Nuno Espírito Santo, described as a candidate “under discussion” at Elland Road. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur boss is currently in charge of Al-Ittihad.

The Times also claimed that contact had been made to bring him to Elland Road to fill the managerial hotseat.

What is the latest on Nuno Espírito Santo amid Leeds’ manager search?

Sources have indicated to Leeds All Over that the club plan to hold talks with the 49-year-old this week, with a view to appointing him as Marsch’s successor.

The prospect of Leeds appointing the Portuguese manager remains a possibility at the moment, with Todofichajes claiming the club are keen to pay his release clause, believed to be around €5million (£4.5m).

However, sources have also told us that Leeds’ sticking point with Nuno is the current release clause is deemed as “too expensive” in his contract. Despite the planned talks, the move is said to be “unlikely” at this stage unless a solution is found with the payment.

Nuno would be a decent choice at this point for Leeds.

The club could do far worse than the Portuguese given the short-term aims they are continuing to give themselves, and in reassessing matters in the summer.

He would surely make the Leeds defence more solid and organised, whilst also utilising the pace Leeds have in attack on the counter to its optimum capacity in transition.

Leeds’ current ambition is Premier League survival, and Nuno may provide that required injection in the short-term to get the Whites out of trouble.
