Leeds United look set to miss out on Manchester City attacking midfielder James McAtee, with reports of a move to Sheffield United imminent.

Leeds have managed to pull off some impressive coups where youth signings are concerned this season, taking top talents Darko Gyabi and Sonny Perkins from Man City and West Ham respectively.

The scouting didn’t stop there, though, and Gyabi wasn’t the only player that Leeds took a close look at from the Etihad this summer.

James McAtee also featured amongst the list of targets for Jesse Marsch to add to his attack this summer, with Man City seemingly not willing to let the player leave permanently – per The Athletic.

He was initially seen as part of the plans under Pep Guardiola, but that no longer appears to be the case with a loan on the cards.

The England youth international won’t be moving to Elland Road this month, though, with claims coming from Sheff United Way on Twitter that he is due to undergo a medical with Sheffield United today:

The 19-year-old is someone that Leeds had initially wanted to sign on a long-term deal, but with the lack of option-to-buy, it would seem the Premier League holders aren’t willing to discuss his exit any time soon.

McAtee would have been a very good signing to add to our squad depth, but you can see why a move to the top end of the Championship was more appealing to both him and Man City.

He’s going to be playing week in, week out after the Blades lost Morgan Gibbs-White, and they will be keen to get back on their feet after losing their first game away to Watford.

It’s not as if we haven’t strengthened in that market though, with Gyabi looking to have a similar impact to what we had planned for McAtee.

You just can’t blame him nor Man City for letting him move to the Championship, where he’s going to be playing far more.
